Today's the day!... we think. Its been 10 years (give or take a day or two) that Canvas Gallery has been open. I would like to thank first and foremost the person I love the most, my amazing wife Megan, for her tireless work, drive and impeccable eye which has made this gallery so successful for so many years. Neither of us would have imagined 10 years ago that we would be where we are today.
Both Megan and I were quite happily working in the film & television industry back then... working many long days and fulfilling our creative desires. In November of 2002, while both working on season 3 of 5 of a show called Queer as Folk, and after 12 years together, Megan tells me that we are going to have a baby. Callum was born in 2002, and Megan decided it was time for a change of career... or at least her career. Less than a year later Canvas Gallery was born, in October of 2003... a gallery with no attitude which would represent an amazing group of talented Canadian artists.

Since our inception Canvas has sold over 7000 works of art to an incredibly loyal client base all over Canada, the U.S., Hong Kong, Australia and Europe - who knew.
There are many people I would like to thank at this time. Number one would be all of our artists, whose beautiful and interesting work has made our jobs so easy. I'd also like to thank our loyal retail clients, all of our interior designers, set decorators & prop buyers, Canada's home magazines and the many design-related television shows which have all helped us establish the gallery as a destination. Last but not least, both Megan and I would like to thank all of the staff that have worked with us over the years but especially; Christie Johnson who has sat beside us for the full ten years doing our amazing website, keeping us organized and in general putting up with a crazy husband and wife team; Erin Stump who arrived just after Christie and who we have relied on for her unbiased eye and her calming effect on all of us. Erin has just recently left us to tend to her own amazing gallery, ESP…good luck Erin; April Mullings, our bookkeeper for the full 10 years who takes care of the often very intricate financials of a gallery with over 100 artists, and 1200 works in inventory at any given time; and last but not least our newest employee (3 years) the always happy and on time Celeste Gillis, whose blog posts bring everyone up to date while always making us laugh with their descriptive headlines.
And that is all for now. Stay tuned for our Anniversary newsletter later in the week.
Cheers, Mark
