Textural Encaustic Wonders Just Arrived from Susan Wallis

We love these two small encaustic pieces brought in this afternoon by Toronto born artist Susan Wallis.

Encaustic painting is the process when coloured pigments are added to hot beeswax, then applied to the painting surface (wood panel and occasionally canvas). The effect is textural and warm with a very organic feel.

Dan Ryan's Paintings Capture the Essence of the Great Canadian Landscape

Two beautiful new landscapes have just been brought to us by Toronto artist Dan Ryan.

After discovering his love of painting as a child, Dan moved to Baffin Island post-secondary school where he was inspired by the landscape which became the main influence of his of his drawings & paintings. After taking the Illustration program at Sheridan College, he went into advertising but continued his pursuit of fine arts and establishing himself as a successful Canadian artist.  His works have been shown in private homes, galleries, and corporations throughout North America.

Heather Millar; Vintage Toys Brought to Life

We're always excited to receive new works from Prince Edward Island resident, Heather Millar.

Heather is inspired by vintage toys and the story they tell as she breathes new ilife into them through her highly realistic oil paintings.  She further develops a nostalgic feel by keeping the background palette simple and complimentary. By introducing negative space, the viewer can acknowledge the toy as an object of importance; to place it on a pedestal higher than it's original intent and finally, to regard it from a new perspective.

New arrivals from Toronto artist Jacquelyn Sloane Siklos have just arrived at Canvas Gallery.

Jacquelyn uses a variety of different cameras and techniques to create  her images, including a tranditional Leica rangefinder, Lomo, Holga, pinhole as well as a digital SLR.  She often continues the image-making process with digital post-processing.

We love these new whimsical mixed media panels brought in this afternoon by Toronto artist Katelyn Di Giulio.

Katelyn's work is inspired by and plays with 'the feminine' and craft work, pop culture, film, fabrics, fashion, vintage and kitsch. Working in mixed media, her art is highly process-based, and the pieces mostly series-oriented. She relies on both happenstance and nostalgia to create these playful works, which incorporate collage, photography, fiber and sculptural elements.

William Oldacre's Colourful Urban Fragments

We recently received some stunning new photography from William Oldacre. These beautiful resin coated panels with their bright, ambiguous imagery would add the perfect burst of colour to any modern decor.

William is a Toronto based photographer whos interest in photography and music have led him to investigate the rhythms and patterns at the root of his surroundings. His work combines his knowledge in photography, computing, and music with an ongoing fascination of Quantum Physics.

Big, Bold and Full of Texture: Karen Kawarsky's latest Mixed Media Creations

We are happy to have some of Karen Kawarsky's latest works now available at Canvas Gallery.

Karen's work is influenced by a fresco technique dating back to the middle ages, through her use of stain, oil and acrylics applied to wet and dried plasters on wood. Karen uses tools to create a roughened surface, and to enhance colour and depth she uses a high gloss epoxy resin to finish each piece.
